Educational and professional background before joining TDA:
I did my professional degree in Mechanical Engineering and started my career as a HVAC Engineer supporting different companies for about four years. Later I pursued my Master’s degree in Low Energy Building Services Engineering from Loughborough University and started my role as Graduate Mechanical Building Services Engineer at TDA in xxx.
Training and qualifications undertaken as part of your role at TDA:
I have been certified with British certification in Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH), National Examination board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) and Health and Safety Level 3. What project have you enjoyed working on the most?
I am working on a school’s refurbishment project for which I did the design and specification of mechanical ventilation, heating and hot water supply. I am managing the project on behalf of the mechanical team. It is always different to work on a real time project rather a university level project. This project has given me a better understanding of Mechanical Building Services Design.
What would you say to someone thinking of applying to work at TDA?
TDA is a good option for professional and personal life balance. It is a positive place to work with collaboration, peace, and good career opportunities.
What do you do in your role?
I assist the electrical team with the specification and design of electrical building services solutions, working on jobs from initial concept through to completion on site. I meet with clients to discuss and understand their requirements and identify the right solution to meet their needs. I run various Service-Level Agreements, as well as oversee planned service items and identify and manage reactive jobs and planned capital projects.
Educational and Professional background before joining TDA:
Prior to joining TDA, I spent over seven years working in various roles for a power generation company. I started as a Production Control Assistant, then undertook a four-year advanced apprenticeship in Electrical Maintenance. During this time I completed my HNC, and went on to work as a Quality Assistant before studying for a BEng (Hons) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Training and Qualifications undertaken as part of the role at TDA:
I previously completed a level 2 CAD course and level 3 IOSH Managing Safely. I am now about to start an 18th Edition Wiring Regulations course and will be doing a course in Solar PV design later this year. I am also starting the process to become professionally registered with the Engineering Council.
The most enjoyable parts of the job and working for TDA:
Without doubt it is the people I work with, combined with the variety of work I am involved in and the flexibility in my working hours that TDA offers.
What project have you enjoyed working on the most?
I am currently working on an access control and CCTV upgrade for a school which also includes electrical works and external lighting, making for an interesting and varied project. I am seeing this project through from concept to completion, specifying and designing the works, meeting with clients and contractors and managing the works on site, ensuring works are carried out to the correct specification.
These types of security jobs are critical to the school’s day to day operation, and I look forward to seeing my ideas and designs come to fruition and the huge benefit this will have to the school.
